My new paper in Paleobiology (OA), on some lesser known aspects of the early history of punctuated equilibria, is available to read online. It is, in effect, a synthesis of some of my older work on Stephen Jay Gould’s early career, and it concerns the curious position of punctuated equilibria in Gould's early vision for evolutionary paleontology:
The paper is part of a special issue— from which several papers have already appeared— intended to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of punctuated equilibria. (The actual anniversary was in 2022.) Anyway, it was a pleasure to write and I hope it’s a pleasure to read.
